STANDING ON SADHU NAILS

It is considered to be a Yoga practice and is associated with the Fire element. Here are some of the benefits:

  • First and foremost it helps with anxiety and depression. Nails help to separate our stories, beliefs, traumas from what is real. The mind becomes much more calm and is less affected by fears and intrusive thoughts
  • After the practice people experience much more clarity and balance

On spirituality:

  • It’s an ultimate meditation practice
  • Once the mind and body is free from what is not real, we can sense very subtle feelings and sensations. This allows us to connect better with our True Self. To be more alive and expressive
  • Being in a moment and being receptive to very subtle feelings could lead to incredibly deep transformations

All of the benefits come at a price…

One needs to surrender and accept incredibly strong sensations during the first 5-8 minutes of a practice. After that the intensity subsides and it might even become pleasant. Occasionally I stand on nails for 1-2 hours.

There are some approaches that make it easier for people to enter standing on nails practice. During retreats we will use some of them.

What to expect during the Sadhu Nails group standing practice?

First we will work with an intention. Without a strong intention it’s almost impossible to sustain standing on nails. At least for most people.

Once the intention is set and clear, we will proceed with a guided breathing. At the same time participants will start connecting with the nails while sitting on a chair.

In some time we will get up and stand together. Intention is the key. Also being relaxed, slowly breathing and standing as a group helps a lot!

At this point it’s important to express what the body wants to do. Some people move, scream, dance, cry, etc. And all of this is normal, all of this is something that person’s body and psyche needs the most.

After the person decides to stand down, it’s important to spend next 15 minutes in a quiet stillness to integrate.
